Of Cakes and Raccoons: HAI!

aboot1Hi. I'm Nadine, a web designer and artist from Toronto, and I've never made a video game before. Over the next few weeks I'm going to document my attempt to make a small indie game through the Artsy Games Incubator.

The AGI, for those of you not familiar with it, is a weekly workshop of sorts for indie game makin'. Participants, like myself, are usually from a wide range of backgrounds, who are curious about making a game, but don't know where to start. Each week we get together to do a show n' tell, and we also get homework: Build our skills in various ways until we're ready to start making our game. Check out their about page for more info.

My current idea for a game involves raccoons, theft, and possibly a cake (no lie). But I'm not sure what kind of cake its going to be yet. I wanted to do something about urban wild life, so I figured having a game about raccoon survival might be interesting. Also, I will get to draw raccoons, and that form of awesome is something I can't argue with. :)

I got into gaming a very long time ago during the NES years, and lost interest sometime around the age of 14 when, quite frankly, drawing and guitars took over my life. I went through most of college a non-gamer and instead spent time buried in type books. It all changed when, a few years ago, someone brought me back a little blue DS from Japan. Coming back into this kind of world after so long, as an adult is interesting. Even though I have a high appreciation for games as a medium, there's a lot I haven't played, I feel like I have a quite a bit of catching up to do.
