Sure, you've told your friends "Man, you should've stood up for yourself. Don't take no crap from no one!" Yet how often do we stand up for ourselves in the face of petty annoyances, like when a barista gives us lip for taking a moment to decide between a tall and a venti?
SNOW, a game from Benjamin Rivers, puts you in the shoes of Dana. Dana's a hard-working girl who needs to learn how to stand up for herself in the face of of those whom she would normally let walk all over her. It's a very short game done up in nifty water colour-ish pixel art. Explore Queen Street West in Toronto (near Much Music's location), get her some much-needed caffeine, go to work and then go home. That's it.
What the game does is shine a light on those moments where we might act meekly instead of standing our ground in the face of a petty annoyance. While it's easy to do so in a game, it definitely reminded me that I don't always have to take the crap that's handed to me and be expected to like it. I totally recommend you spend 10 minutes in Dana's shoes today, and understand that by helping her you might help yourself tomorrow. It's available for Windows and should run on anything more powerful than a toaster. Download it here.
